Athlete of the Month: September 2016

Kaley Cline

Member since: March 2014

Windy City: Kaley is a long time member who has really stepped up her game at Windy City. Not only has she made an incredible physical transformation through her nutrition habits, but she's also fine tuned many of her CrossFit skills while continuing to get stronger. Kaley loves to put in the extra work before and after class and it is definitely paying off for her. We look forward to watching Kaley develop even further in the sport of CrossFit.

“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” -Abraham Lincoln

Kaley: I grew up playing every sport you could think of. I was involved in volleyball, cheerleading, basketball, softball and track and field. When I went to college all of those things went away. I would go to the gym and lift weights but it would only last a month or two then fall at the wayside. It just got repetitive and didn’t keep me motivated to go. I noticed a few of my friends were doing CrossFit and I thought, why not try it out. Before I knew it, I had been going for a few months and was constantly challenging myself to lift heavier weights. Going to the gym is no longer a chore, it’s something that I look forward to everyday.

Recent Adventures

I travel for work and try to always find something fun to see or do while traveling. I’m very fortunate to have seen Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, and the Golden Gate Bridge within the past few years.

Skiing has evolved into one of my favorite hobbies and probably the only reason I look forward to winter! This last year’s ski adventures include multiple trips to Lake Tahoe and Flagstaff, Arizona. I also go on a ski trip to Colorado every year with some of my colleagues from Graduate School. We go to the same ski resorts each year so it’s fun to see how you’ve improved and to challenge yourself on harder runs.

Future Adventures

I currently don’t have any trips planned but I always have my eye on certain states I haven’t skied in. I’ve had my eye on Utah for the past few years so hopefully I can fit it into my schedule this winter.

If time and money weren’t an object I would travel to New Zealand and Australia. I hope to travel internationally more.

Personal Goals

I would like to do the CrossFit Open this year and be able to do everything that comes up on the Rx workouts. I’ve been concentrating on muscle ups in general and my goal is to get them by the Open this year.

Increasing the weight on my one rep maxes. Getting my clean up to 190 pounds would be a huge feat. I have a mental block when it comes to increasing the weight on cleans.

I would like to have a more positive relationship with running. I think everyone at the gym knows how much I hate running and will do anything to row instead of run!

Live life to your fullest, you never know which day will be your last.
