Windy City May 2018 Athlete of the Month

“Life is too short."

How has training at Windy City helped you become the person you were meant to be?

Training at WCSC has given me the ability to push myself out of my comfort zone and say yes to the things I did not think I could achieve. Because of this push, I feel like a new person and I am looking forward to what is around the corner to accomplish.

Training has become a necessity and a way of life for me at WCSC. It has pushed me physically, mentally and spiritually in ways I never thought was possible and that has become very addictive. I was training at other gyms and was never able to achieve the person I wanted to become. I was doing the same kind of workouts without seeing any progress and it was taking a toll on my mental and spiritual ability. But at WCSC with the help of the staff and community I feel so empowered and encouraged to be better than I was yesterday.

I have stopped saying “no, I can't do that” and now I say “Yes, lets try it out”. I am not afraid to fail now, because it makes me stronger either way.

What adventures, events, trips, races do you have planned?

We just came back last week from a 4 day, 38 mile, 13000 elevation change backpacking trip in the back country of the Smoky Mountains carrying a 35 lb ruck. It was an amazing experience and pushed me to a new kind of exhaustion within my fitness that has helped me understand why I train, so I can do these kinds of adventures that I love.

What would you do and where would you go if time / money were not object?

I would remember the times when I was a kid looking at magazines and books of far away places and adventures and wishing I was there. If time and money were no object, I would want to find those places and be on those adventures.

Goals

  • Fitness: A big goal for me is to break into 100lb with my back squat.

  • Professionally: Start a new business with my husband.

  • Personal: Become more fluent with writing and speaking English. I attend English classes every Saturday morning to help with my 2nd language.

Something that most people don’t know about me:

I am a very shy person.

Words to Live By

Since I have become involved in WCSC, I have noticed this is the person I was always meant to be.
