Windy City: Bobby! We're excited to feature Corro as our August 2016 Athlete of the Month. A long-time member, getting his start in our second box, Bobby has seen it all, experienced it all. And through it all, Bobby has become an integral member of the Windy City community and continued to get better and better over the years. I can honestly say that we absolutely love having Bobby as a member here at Windy City. A member of the Windy City competition program, as well an avid sailor and foodie, Bobby truly practices the our LiveBIG philosophy. Congratulations Bobby! Keep livin' BIG!

“I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.” -D.H. Lawrence

Corro: I started Crossfit in 2008/2009 in Iowa and joined Windy City Crossfit in 2010 when I moved back to Chicago. There was a huge difference between the gym in Iowa and WCCF. The Iowa gym focus mostly on KB movements with some crossfit thrown in, but WCCF offered Crossfit, Olympic Weightlifting, and an open mind to training.

When I started at WCCF and Crossfit, I was just looking for a way to stay fit but over time my goals and focus have changed and WCCF has always offered programming and encouragement to meet my training needs. Throughout all my ups and downs over the years, WCCF has been a constant.  It is a place where I can get away from the craziness of the world and put in work that allows me to escape for a bit.

The Competition Team has really helped me step up my training.  Training with the best allows you to see what is possible with a lot of work and keeps you motivated.

Recent Adventures

A constant adventure is chasing my son around and trying to be a good father.

The Crossfit Games Open is always a fun time. I achieved my goal of placing in the top 1000 in my age group but I know that I can do better.

In April, I sailed from the eastern end of Puerto Rico to Havana, Cuba to Key West, FL. This was my first extended offshore sailing trip. It took 7 days to sail from Puerto Rico to Havana. This trip was definitely outside my comfort zone. Sailing 24/7 for 7 days, was a new and exciting experience. Havana is an amazing city.

Future Adventures

Next year, I think that I am going to rent a boat in the Caribbean and sail for around for a week or so. Big trips which I would like to do in the next few years are Vietnam/Laos, New Zealand/Australia, and France.

If money and time where no object…. Go to Cooking School in China and France for a few years and then sail and travel.

Personal Goals

At the gym:  Top 600 in age group in the Open, Clean more than 225lbs (there is a mental thing at 225). Consistent Pistols, Muscle Up, and Butterfly pull ups/CTB. Complete at the NorCal Master competition in 2017.

Personal: Always seeking balance between Work, Life, and Play.  Try to be a better father to Sam. Trying to enjoy the journey more and be less worried about the destination.

Don't let fear or insecurity stop you from trying new things. Believe in yourself. Do what you love. And most importantly, be kind to others, even if you don't like them.
