MAY 2019

What's up Windy City!

May is here! And you know what that means… we’re only a month out from our 12th annual Navy SEAL Foundation fundraiser event (MURPH!) -- June 1st -- and open to all. We’ll have an amazing workout (scaleable to all), awesome music provided by Cage & Aquarium, the best BBQ in Chicago (Smoque) and refreshing beverages. Don’t sleep on this one! Beyond that, we’ve got a lot we’re excited about coming up at Windy City. As always, we’re fired up about this month’s AOM; we’ve got a new online store for fresh Windy City gear; a new challenge; and a number of announcements. All that and more below. Check it out!

Keep livin' BIG!

They have adult classes based around tumbling; as well, aerial silks...and you’ll find excellent coaching, thorough warm-ups, and fun.

  • Vision Walk
Windy City... Putting this out there again. A member of our Windy City community (Thara Nagarajan) has a loved one who has been diagnosed with Usher Syndrome...an incredibly rare syndrome that causes hearing impairment and progressive vision loss -- starting with the loss of peripheral and night vision, leading to tunnel vision, and finally, possibly, to no vision at all. There is no current cure or medication; however, researchers are making progress every day. They need funds. Thara is one of our own. Her and her family have done nothing but support Windy City over the years, and we would like to do all we can to reciprocate that support. Windy City donated last year, and will do so again this year; however, we feel that this amazing community, mobilized together, can do so much more. Please consider donating to Thara's team for the Vision Walk (June 2nd). Funds will benefit the Fighting Blindness Foundation and research to cure blindness. If you have any questions or want to know more, Thara welcomes anyone to approach her in person. As well, more information can be found HERE.

ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Amanda De La Cerda

Amanda came to check out the gym and learn about our six week kick start program about a year ago. When she showed up, she brought her boyfriend with her.  After spending some time showing them around the gym and getting a sense of their goals, it became very clear that her boyfriend was going to think twice about committing to CrossFit, but Amanda was ready to embrace it and hold on tight. And that she did, by settling into the 6:30 am class and using the WODs as a means of improving her running (ask her about all the races she has done), learning a bunch of new skills and hitting all kinds of personal records. Watching her compete in her first CrossFit Open after tackling Coach PJ’s open prep programming was a personal favorite of ours. We are constantly impressed by Amanda’s dedication and hard work and really happy to recognize her as our AOM!
