JUNE 2018

What's up Windy City!

Summer starts with Murph! We’re really excited about tomorrow’s 11th Annual Murph event at Windy City. And the good news… there’s still time to sign-up. Don’t miss this one. Killer workout, good food, amazing drinks, awesome music, fabulous people; kind of a right of passage at Windy City. In addition, this month we’ve got a new strength build (check your dashboard under strength) beginning 6/11. We’ll be focusing on the front squat and press. In addition to our Murph event and a new 6 week strength build, we’ll be serving up some supplement sampling — more info below. And lastly, we’re fired up to share another awesome Athlete of the Month profile with all of you. All that and more. Check it out!

Keep livin' BIG,

—Justin

  • Windy City Challenges
Do you have what it takes to get your name on our Windy City Challenge boards? Set your sights on a challenge, then pull a coach aside to get an official record. Only coaches can grace your name on the Windy City Challenge Boards (i.e. please don't add your own name). Good luck! Learn more

  • Please sign in at the kiosk before/after your workouts
We’ll be honest, we've been pretty lax about checking you in before your workout. But we need to make this mandatory so we can keep tabs on how full classes are in order for you to get the best experience at the gym. So starting today, please make checking in at the kiosk part of your workout routine. Thanks in advance for your cooperation!

ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Russ Jewell

“Life is short and we should live it to the fullest! The best way we can do that is by maintaining our fitness so we can get out and experience all it has to offer. Our fitness is one of the few things we have total control over. We are individually responsible to ourselves for our fitness-no one else can be held accountable. We should continually set and evaluate our goals and work hard to accomplish them!”

STAFF FAVE FOUR

Here's a list of what we're loving and learning this month:

  1. Ox: Book I'm reading
"Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy" by Sheryl Sandberg—It's a book that helps with coping with profound hardships and tragedies. It not only helps you help yourself, but help others who go through the same thing.

  2. Terri: Habit I'm trying
Continuing to orgainze and minimize "stuff." Clutter makes me crazy, and I hate messes. I feel more at peace when I have only what I need, and it's organized.

  3. Chris: Adventure I'm planning
Indiana Dunes—First camping trip with my son in June. I grew up camping at the beach and want to turn him on to the joys of sleeping under the stars, campfires and hanging outside.

  4. Eloise: Gear I'm using
WBCM Weightlifting Straps—They're the best straps I've used. For weightlifters, they're a MUST as they save your hands from getting beat up from gripping the bar throughout daily training.

ARTICLE OF THE MONTH

Fallen But Never Forgotten

Russell Berger takes a closer look at workouts created to honor our fallen.

On June 28, 2005, four Navy SEALs on a reconnaissance mission in the Kunar province of Afghanistan were ambushed by an overwhelming Taliban force. Team leader Lt. Michael Murphy, unable to call for help from his location, walked into the center of enemy fire, where his satellite phone might work. He punched in the numbers to HQ and calmly requested reinforcements.

Even after being knocked to his knees from a gunshot wound to his back, Murphy calmly sat back up, steadied himself and continued the call, knowing that it was the only way he might save his men. Once the call for reinforcements had been completed, he returned to the fight with an MH-47 Chinook helicopter on the way.
