ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Kate Walsh

“I started on the Level 1 classes like everyone does, and somewhere between 6-10 level 1 classes I was given a push to finally go to one of the WODs. A Saturday team WOD was my first one...I hated and loved every minute of it. It opened the door for me. I tried Oly, I survived my first CF Open, then Murph training, and worked with Sheena for weeks at skills & drills to get my first pull ups since grade school. From that point on I found my niche in the 6:30 WOD. I rely on my morning crew to push me to challenge myself and to keep pushing even when it feels like all of my extremities are falling off. I love being at the gym and seeing all of the friendly and new faces.”

FAVE FIVE FROM THE COACHES

Here's a list of what we're loving and learning this month:

  1. Britt: Favorite Pandora station that puts me in the right state of mind to crush a workout
Orsten Radio—Don't knock it until you try it! You'll be crushing a WOD and slaying beats in no time!
  2. Huong: Favorite thing to cook when the weather get cold
Pho—It's delicious, makes my whole house smell amazing, and it's easy to tailor around everyone's macros.
  3. Hensley: What I'm Working On
Wim Hof Method—Breathing and calmness during workouts. I try to do these exercises every morning. I breathe better, my resting heart rate comes down, and I can handle the cold better (if following the cold protocol). Some research suggests it also keeps you from getting sick.
  4. Patrick: My favorite (macro friendly) fast food
Blaze Pizza—Who doesn't like Pizza? I'm going there once a week and usually build my own pizza with mozzarella, grilled chicken and some veggies. Best part, besides the amazing taste, is that the whole pizza only has 23g of fat (For comparison one (1) slice of a 14" pizza from Dominos has 17g). Healthy pizza prepared in 10min right in front of your eyes. Thank me later!
  5. Amanda: Favorite Holiday Tradition
Eating pizza and having Euchre tournaments with my family on Christmas Eve. Never played Euchre? Here's how.

It may all sound too good to be true, but countless fitness seekers have found that the right workout buddy can do all that and more...”
