What's up Windy City!

Nine years ago on this date, Windy City opened its doors for the first time. Man, time flies… We’ve come a long way in those nine years. And as we round the corner here into December and the holiday season, I just want to say Thank You to all who have come through our doors...members, staff and guests. We’ve got a lot to be grateful for. And that includes a jam packed December. We’ve got our Barbells for Boobs event, the Windy City Anniversary / Holiday party and, of course, year nine of the 12 Days of Christmas workout. As well, a new AOM, a new challenge, new gear and an amazing trip report from the Inca Trail. All that and more. Check it!

  • Barbell for Boobs Fundraiser Workout: Dec. 10th
    Join us the morning of December 10th as we celebrate Wind City’s 9th anniversary with our very own partner workout and fundraiser for Barbells For Boobs. Everyone has a right to know if they’re living with breast cancer. There’s a tremendous need for all types of support, from being proactive, to detection, treatment and survivorship. We've raised $9,834 so far! Let's keep it going and hit over $10,000! If you haven't joined our fundraising team yet, we have a chance to be the top fundraising affiliate in the state of Illinois. Find a buddy and sign up today—it's all about having fun!

  • Windy City Anniversary Party: Dec. 10th 8pm–late
    We’re going to get down in the AM, sweat and raise some money for a great cause, then let loose in the PM with our Anniversary / Holiday party at Matilda (8pm–???) Come party BIG with us!

  • Free Injury Assessment: Dec. 6th 6pm–8pm
    Airrosti is a conservative, non-invasive approach for pain/injuries. Dr. Christina Seibert and Meghan Nelson will be joining us Tuesday, December 6th from 6pm-8pm offering free injury assessments to any Windy City CrossFitters suffering from pain or an injury. These 15 minute appointments will allow Dr. Seibert to properly assess and diagnose the source of your pain while discussing next steps to ensure you don’t miss a beat in your workouts and day to day activities.

  • Yoga is Back
    10am on Sundays, Danielle Malaty will be offering a 60 min restorative yoga session in the back room. Bring your own yoga mat. We estimate space for about 15 people so be sure to come a bit early if you want to check out her class. This will be a free class to all Windy City members. Let's get flexible.

“My parents divorced when I was 14 which caused me to spiral out of control. Needless to say, it was a big impact in my life. Setting the base for me to have very low self-esteem, no confidence and spark disruptive behavior. I gave up on myself multiple times at everything I did. People I thought were my friends harassed me and persuaded me into doing wrongful things. I got shipped off to a school in Mexico for 18 months where I gathered the tools I needed to take with me in everyday life. I pulled my head out of my ass and got my sh*t together. Years went by and I ran some of the same patterns on and off. It was time for a change. January 2016, I walked into Windy City...”

  1. Austin: Book I'm reading
    "How Proust Can Change Your Life" by Alain de Botton; "#AskGaryVee: One Entrepreneur's Take on Leadership" by Gary Vaynerchuk, and "Outliers: The Story of Success" by Malcolm Gladwell (audiobook).
  2. Terri: Something I'm practicing
    Life moves so fast, too fast. Stopping everyday to think about (and journal) what I'm grateful for helps me find joy in the little things.
  3. Meg: Podcast I'm loving
    The School of Greatness by Lewis Howes—Start with episode #400! 
  4. Doc: App I'm loving
    Duolingo app—A cute little app for learning French and Spanish on. Do it on the train in the morning and one on the way home. 
  5. Molloy: Makeup I'm using
    Tendertalk Lip Balm by Mac—I especially like Tendertalk Lip Balm for the cold months coming up because its a moisturizer with color. It can also be a good Christmas present for your girlfriend

Windy City takes on the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu

“Since moving to Chicago in 2010, I’ve made some of the best friends anyone could ask for. I’m a firm believer in surrounding yourself with likeminded people who cultivate spiritual, mental, and physical growth. Windy City’s “LiveBIG” foundation is built upon improving your health so you can get the most out of life as possible. We believe this starts at the gym but doesn’t have to be confined within our brick walls. I’ve definitely felt challenged and pushed to my max physically and mentally by workouts before but there’s something truly unique about stepping outside of your comfort zone and taking your fitness out into the world. My comfort zone is Windy City. I choose to spend nearly all my waking hours here (within reason) because I love who we are and what we want to be. My most recent exploit outside of our walls was a “bucket list” adventure to explore the Peruvian Andes and experience the lost Incan city of Machu Picchu. I’ll be sharing my experience and we’re lucky enough to have a few guest contributors as well because the best part about this trip was the group that gathered together to tackle this adventure!”
