Athlete of the Month: February 2016

Andrew Mosio

Member since: July 2013

Windy City: Mosio is about as dedicated as they come. He's remained a loyal and consistent member/athlete at Windy City despite moving his family to the suburbs several months ago. Hours before most people's alarm clocks go off, you'll find this guy getting Jack'd out of his mind. As all the Windy City coaches will attest, Mosio has a way of keeping training entertaining! But it's not all fun and games for this guy; whether he's pulling 475lbs off the ground or push pressing 135lbs for a set of 30 unbroken reps, Mosio is a force to be reckoned with.

Mosio:  I signed up for foundations about 3 years ago. I was bored with the big box gym I was working out at. I needed a change. That change came in the form of CrossFit. At first, I was very intimidated but soon realized that the coaching staff and community at WCSC had welcomed me with open arms.

Crossfit has changed my life (it’s cliché but I believe in it and just had to say it). My time here at WCSC has changed my body and mind. I have tested my limits and I have become stronger and learned more about my limitations and myself. As a result, I was inspired to run my first marathon in 2014 and I have WCSC to thank for that.

Fast-forward to the present WCSC continues to challenge me mentally and physically. I am inspired to wake up each morning and march into the gym with a smile on my face. Shout out to the Alpha Crew. Who needs sleeves?

Recent Adventures

Being an active member of WCSC has provided me with confidence to go out and participate in events that I never thought I could complete.  I have participated in the CrossFit Games Open and two Annual Murph Day challenges. I had fun during both events and will continue to participate for years to come. I've challenged myself to do several different runs each year and have also participated in two Tough Mudder challenges. Stepping outside of my comfort zone is second nature now due to the confidence I have been able to build upon.

Future Adventures

Watching my 6 year old and 4 year old grow up has been an adventure. As they get older, our opportunities for family adventures expand and the sky is the limit. I want to make sure they are active and #liveBIG, because there is absolutely no reason they can’t start young. We are getting ready to conquer Disney in the coming days. Look out Mickey!

I have a ton of things I want to do. I am focused on finalizing the plans for my Durango to Moab trip later this summer (thanks for the inspiration Chet and Justin). I have recently realized that I need to #liveBIG. This mantra has changed my outlook and approach and the list of adventures will grow.

Personal Goals

At the gym:  I have grown and developed so much. I am doing movements I never thought possible. I would like to be able to deadlift 500lb (I’m close) and crank out 10 muscle ups.

Professionally: I love what I do. I am on track professionally but never want to stop striving for that next level.

Personal: I want to continue to develop my mind and body. This must never stop. I need to stop have more fun and smile because life is pretty good.

Congratulations Andy!! I love coming in at 5:40(ish) and hearing you give me a hard time about being late.

You make everyone around you better whether that is physically or just by putting us all in a great mood. You know how to give us perspective without even trying! The Alpha guys are super lucky to have you as part of their team and we’re lucky to have you as an AM guy!
