Hey gang,

Welcome to the first issue of the Windy City News. There are lots of things happening at the gym these days, and we admit that we haven't been great about keeping in touch. Well, this monthly newsletter is going to change all of that. We'll send you an email once a month so you know what's going on. If you miss the email, no worries—you can also find it in the Pulse. 2015 was a great year here at Windy City and we're really looking forward to 2016!

ANNOUNCEMENTS
 

  • CrossFit Open 2016 begins February 25th
    Every year, the entire gym is invited (and encouraged) to participate in the CrossFit Open. It's only $20! If you haven't done so, you can sign up here. If you’re still on the fence, here are FIVE REASONS YOU SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN THE CROSSFIT OPEN. Don't forget to select Windy City CrossFit as your affiliate.

  • Pre-Order Your Windy City CrossFit Open 2016 T-Shirt by Feb. 19th
    Once you've signed up for the Open, represent the Windy City team by owning the 2016 t-shirt. Only $25 for 1 shirt or $20ea for 2 or more shirts. These shirts are only available by pre-order and we will only order a few extras for exchanges. ORDER NOW

  • Save the date: Windy City BIG social hour! February 19th at 7:30pm
    Stay after class (or come back to the gym) on Friday, February 19th for the first ever Windy City BIG social hour. Meet other members of Windy City, make friends, enjoy an adult beverage and kick it to some tunes. The vinyl drops at 7:30pm! More details to come.

  • Feb. 1 - Main WOD Class Testing Week
    Starting the week of February 1st, the main WOD classes will be finishing another training cycle. Thus, we will be re-testing some of the workouts we had during our last testing week as well as adding new ones! It's going to be a great week.

  • Schedule Changes / Updates
    Beginning Monday, January 18th, we made several changes to the weekly schedule. Instead of our regular Athlete Conditioning classes, we will be offering alternative coach specific training.

    Mondays at 5pm coach Eloise will teach a core focused conditioning class to help you develop better stability, control and a rock hard stomach.
    • Tuesdays at 7pm will be Skills and Drills with coach Sheena, where you will have the opportunity to work on specific challenging CrossFit moves and progressions.
    • Wednesdays at 5pm will be Classic CrossFit, where coach Meg will cover strategy, efficiency and technique to maximize your score on the various benchmark CrossFit WOD's (Fran, Grace, Jackie, etc.).

    • We will continue to offer Conditioning programming on the website as a self-guided alternative to our coach lead classes.

  • LiveBIG Adventures
    Join Windy City coaches and members as they travel the globe, seeking the most adventurous ways to get out there and use their fitness—then share their stories and experiences so you can do it too. Check out our featured adventures and start living big with us! Subscribe to the Windy City LiveBIG List for discounts on LiveBIG Adventures, inspirational stories and new ways to help you be the person you were meant to be.

  • Lockers Available for $7/month
    Make visits to Windy City as hassle free as possible with your own locker to store personal belongings and training gear. Lockers are available for $7/month. A credit card is required to rent a locker and your card will be charged each month. All lockers at are issued on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to sign-up for a locker, simply email admin@windycitycrossfit.com and/or stop by the front desk.

  • Did you know? 
    At Windy City, we believe in getting out there, experiencing the world, seeking new and exciting challenges...and using our health and fitness to be the people we were meant to be. We also believe in giving back, paying forward and being socially responsible. We believe so strongly in this that we’ve partnered with Merchant Giving Project so that a portion of every credit card transaction will be donated to The Sierra Club Foundation, an organization dedicated to safeguarding our planet so future generations will have an “out there” left to explore.

At first, I was very intimidated but soon realized that the coaching staff and community at WCSC had welcomed me with open arms. Crossfit has changed my life (it’s cliché but I believe in it and just had to say it). ARTICLE OF THE MONTH

GORUCK HEAVY

GORUCK leads military-style team-building endurance events called GORUCK Challenges, more popularly known by levels of difficulty: Light, Tough and Heavy. Their classes are led from start to finish by a Special Forces Cadre. His job is to test your limits, push you beyond them, and build your class into a team. There are no cash prizes at the finish. All you earn is a 2x3 inch patch and the respect of everyone to your left and right.

At Windy City, we're proud to honor the training, efforts and accomplishments of members Ingrid, Duke and Lance for completing the GORUCK Heavy, a challenge that 50% of participants don't complete.     If anyone wants to join us in the Ruck Club, we just started a new round of programming to increase our base overall fitness for our next event (whatever that may be). 

    Our first excursion was the Bataan Memorial Death March in NM two years ago, Duke and Ingrid knocked out a GoRuck Heavy, Ed rocked a GoRuck Challenge, and we just tried our hand at the Frozen Otter.  We’re looking for our next adventure, generally not competitive, usually a lot of fun, and outside for the most part.
